This Privacy Policy describes how Pankaj Gaikar (“we”, “us”, “Service Provider”) handles information when you use the Bhagavad Gita mobile application (“App”) for iPhone and iPad — a calm, offline-first Bhagavad Gita reader.
Reading preferences. Font size, appearance, language, translator choice, layout style, and similar settings are stored locally (and may sync via Apple iCloud Key-Value storage if you enable iCloud sync).
User library. Bookmarks, notes, highlights, and reading progress are stored in a local SQLite database on your device.
Daily verse & widgets. A short daily-verse snapshot may be written to an App Group container so Home Screen widgets can update. Optional daily reminders use local notifications if you grant permission.
App icon choice. If you pick an alternate app icon, that preference is stored on device.
Audio. On-device speech (system TTS) may be used for Listen; speech audio is processed by Apple’s speech APIs on device according to your system settings — we do not upload verse audio to our own servers.
If you enable iCloud sync, bookmarks, notes, highlights, progress, and selected settings may sync through your personal Apple iCloud / CloudKit account. That data stays under your Apple ID. We do not operate a separate app account server for this sync. Disable sync in Settings, or manage iCloud data in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud.
In release builds, the App may use Firebase Analytics (Google) and optionally Crashlytics to understand stability and feature usage (for example screen opens or bookmark toggles). Events are designed to avoid personal identifiers and do not include verse body text, note contents, or highlight text.
Debug builds may log events only to the local console. Google’s processing of analytics data is also subject to Google’s privacy terms for Firebase.
The App currently has no ads and no in-app purchases. If monetization is introduced later, this Privacy Policy will be updated before those features ship, and App Store purchase processing (if any) will be handled by Apple.
Bundled Bhagavad Gita verses and translations are sourced primarily from the open gita/gita dataset. Commentary enrichment may include material adapted from DharmicData under the Open Database License (ODbL). Attribution and a downloadable ODbL extract are available in the App’s Settings. We do not claim copyright over traditional Sanskrit scripture text itself.
Uninstalling the App removes on-device preferences, library data, and widget caches created by the App (subject to iOS backup behavior). To stop reminders, disable notifications in iOS Settings or turn the reminder off in the App. If you used iCloud sync, remove related CloudKit / Key-Value data via Apple’s iCloud controls. Analytics data retained by Firebase is aggregate/pseudonymous according to that service’s retention practices.
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
The Service Provider is based in India. By using the App, you understand that information processed through Apple (App Store, notifications, iCloud) and Firebase (if analytics are enabled) may be handled in countries where those providers operate.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
